PITT-TITUSVILLE’S NURSING PROGRAM PINNING AND COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES SET FOR APRIL 27TH

TITUSVILLE – Pitt-Titusville will celebrate its annual pinning and commencement ceremonies at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Henne Auditorium inside the Broadhurst Science Center.

There are seven nursing students expected to graduate with their Associate of Science degrees. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

According to historical accounts, the pinning ceremony dates back to the 12th century and Florence Nightingale. She was a pioneer, and she revolutionized nursing with her practical approach to cleanliness and compassion for others. She is known as the “mother of modern nursing.” Nightingale received the Red Cross of St. George for her service during the Crimean War. To honor this recognition, she paid it forward through a presentation of a medal of excellence to her best and brightest nursing graduates, a tradition that continues today.

Today’s pinning ceremony is where graduates receive their nursing pin from a family member or friend of their choice who has supported their commitment and journey through their nursing education. While the pin is being placed on the student’s lapel, their statement will be read by a faculty member.

Two student honors, the ASN Academic Achievement Award, and the ASN Clinical Nursing Award, will be announced and presented during the pinning ceremony.

After the pinning ceremony, the seven Associate of Science degrees will be conferred by Pitt-Titusville President, Richard T. Esch in Henne Auditorium.

Following the conferral, the new graduates will proceed to the courtyard to ring the campus bell, which signifies their graduate status.
