SEVEN STUDENTS COMPLETE BASIC MACHINING PROGRAM IN TITUSVILLE

December 2023 Basic Machining Students

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Seven students were recognized Monday after successfully completing the Basic Machining course offered by the Manufacturing Assistance Center at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Education and Training Hub.

The students, who finished the 15-week Basic Machining program, received certificates at a ceremony Monday.

Receiving certificates were Clyde Willey of Titusville, Drake Williams of Meadville, Landon Baker of Titusville, Ashton Burleigh of Titusville, Kayla Rihel of Rouseville, Lane Longacre of Fryburg, and Ethan Strauss of Pittsburgh.

“It is always great to recognize those who complete certification and degree programs,” said Dr. Stephanie Fiely, executive director of the Hub. “We are pleased to have our eighth cohort complete the classroom and machine aspects of the Basic Machining program with the MAC here in Titusville. Students who complete this program can easily enter into one of the great employment opportunities in our region.”

The course offers students a combination of classroom, shop and machine time to help them develop manual and tooling skills. Students learned conventional machining, including how to operate mills, lathes, grinders and saw. They also learned how to use micrometers and calipers and to read prints.

The program enabled students to increase their skills and knowledge of the manual machines to either advance in their current roles or seek new employment. In addition, many students who take the basic course advance into the CNC course to further enhance their skills as well as their knowledge and understanding of the field.

The next classes for the Basic and CNC Machining will begin the week of Jan. 8. To learn more, visit www.titusville.pitt.edu/MAC.
